Director was wishing to achieve a neutral look to the film. With the intention of being a little flat. Giving an intentional look that positions the audience to subconsciously feel a little bit uneasy of the events that unfold for a thriller based story. To further enhance this, I had slightly shifted the skin tones for the antagonist of this film, the “mother”, bringing that slight feeling of uneasiness for the audience right from the start.
